Couples Therapy

All of us want to be happy and fulfilled with our significant other. Couples therapy helps couples gain a deeper understanding of  each other and develop different skills to strengthen their relationship. Premarital counseling can help couples talk about various topics that have not been talked about thoroughly as well as attain insight and awareness.  Marriage counseling can also help couples who are going through a difficult time and address multiple issues. Stress can affect a relationship in a variety of ways. Couples can talk about challenging topics in a safe space with a neutral therapist who will help the couple hear and understand each other and focus on their goals.

Some couples decide to seek therapy even when things are going well in the relationship while others look for a therapist when they are deep in crisis. It is best to see a therapist before things get worse and while both of you are still invested and willing to make changes. After the couple agrees on the goals of therapy, the therapist will help couples change how they view their relationship, alter dysfunctional behaviors, reduce emotional avoidance and improve communication. Although some couples may want a quick fix to their problems, it is important to remember that therapy takes time as you will both learn to be vulnerable, talk about feelings, and listen to each other in different ways.
